Caveboy – Raconteur – Official Music Video

If you are looking for a modern primal sound with a hint of 80’s synth from three amazing women, Cayboy are what you are looking for. This Canadian based band have an intoxicating energy and a great sense of humour.  We had the pleasure of hanging out with the girls for two weeks after they won the international competition Recording Festival 2017. This is the second ever Recording Festival. The competition runs over two years. This year 3 acts won out of 520 who applied. Read more here. These 3 winning artists were flown out to Ireland for the 14 day recording session at Grouse Lodge Studios. While they were there we took the time to film the official music video for Caveboy’s single Raconteur.

During the two week of intense recording from the girls, we were constantly getting drawn away from our production office with the upbeat multi layered addictive sounds that were being produced from the studio. Then, nearing the end of the second week there was a change in tone with the ephemeral sounds that echoed through the halls, it was this song ‘Raconteur’. This, in particular came at a time in the two weeks when people where more reflective of the experience that they had had there in the studio. With this in mind we had a chance to take advantage of the beautiful pool area in Grouse Lodge. Caveboy had suggested it and we thought this location was perfect for the sound of this track and so the official music video for ‘Raconteur’ was born.

On the Raconteur music video shoot Caveboy were up for anything and everything. So we shot the shit out of this room with 5 cameras. We also had a Movi on set to give the lovely smooth motion to the shots. We had lots of fun shooting this video, the girls have a natural confidence that is soooo good on camera. They are fearless.

This is the first single from their upcoming album. We are very excited to hear the rest of the fully mixed songs. This is a band to keep your eyes on. They are Deadly!

Music Video – Behind The Vines – ‘Love Forever’

Music Video Behind The Vines Love Forever Part 2 of 3

Behind the scenes of Behind The Vines – ‘Love Forever’ music video shoot

‘Love Forever’ is the second single released by Electro Alt/Pop duo Behind The Vines. It’s also the second video in our music video trilogy. Check out Part 1 ‘Illusions‘. Part 3 coming soon

This continues the story of Emma, Dave and Graham started in Part 1. This time we focus on Emma in the aftermath of the first video.

Emma is a talented performer, both as an actress but also with aerial hoop, silks and acro-balance. Once we heard that she had this unique skill set, we instantly knew we had the visual hook for the second video. We envisioned Emma hanging on the hoop as if floating through space and time, as the ordeal she has just survived flashes in and out of her mind. There is something really hypnotic about her reaching out to the viewer, hovering in space, as her future too hangs in the balance, so to speak. Big thanks to Tribe Fitness who let us use their studio for the hoop shots with Emma.

We had an interesting journey refining the edit of this video. This is a pretty violent video, and was always meant to be. We wanted there to be a strong contrast between the lyrics and mood of the track, and the over dramatised action particularly towards the end of the video. But we had to get the balance just right. It took several iterations, some toned down, some pushed farther, but we feel in the end we’ve gotten it just right. Like Goldilocks.

Graham is the counterpoint in this video, and brings a tremendous depth of brooding and passion which moves the story forward. His intensity in this video stands out and set the bar for Emma to match.

Dave’s role takes a back seat somewhat in part 2, but his absence both physically and in the narrative sense creates the void that must be filled by the others.

Part 3 will be with you in a few weeks, and will wrap up the trilogy with yet more drama and action. Make sure to subscribe to the guys to see it as soon as it drops!

“Love Forever” was written and produced by Behind The Vines.
Track mixed by Stuart Gray at Jealoustown Studios and mastered by Fergal Davis at Fergal Davis Mastering.

We shot the music video for ‘Love Forever’ with the Sony F5 at 180 frames per second using the beautiful Zeiss Standard Speeds. A huge thank you to Film Equipment Hire for looking after us with amazing gear. We would recommend them for all your film equipment needs! The music video was edited on Premiere Pro CC and the visual effects were done with After Effects CC.

Michael and Keith from Behind the Vines are genuine and also really sound lads. They write, record and produce all of their own tunes and their sound stems from a love of 80’s synth pop, alternative rock and modern electro music.

With their debut album set for independent release at the end of the year, they are currently working hard in the studio while putting together a live show that will capture their unique sound.

This is the second part of a three part story and it has been so much fun to work with everyone on this project. Keep your eyes on these guys.

Check out Part 2 ‘Love Forever‘. Part 3 coming soon.

When we heard the song at Kerbute HQ,  immediately we were hooked and couldn’t wait to start working on the music video for Illusions. The lads, Michael Moore and Keith Diffley are childhood friends from Ireland who have been playing in many different bands together for years. Recently they decided to join forces as electro alt/pop duo ‘Behind the Vines‘.

With the view that every idea has endless musical possibilities both artists work tirelessly to produce a track that they are proud of. ‘Illusions’ was the first track that they played for us in Kerbute and we instantly loved it.

A synth heavy, melody driven sound with smooth vocal hooks throughout. Lucky for us the lads where really open to creative ideas for their video and after listening to some more of their tracks we realised that we could do something really fun and approach the songs and videos with a new twist.

The idea was to create a three part story that is influenced by three of their songs. The first of which is ‘Illusions’. The name and the sound of this track evoked a sense of something strange, like a kink in the universe, a loop, even maybe some time travel.

The story begins with a girl who is played by the lovely Emma Dunlop running desperately for her life.  Emma was fantastic to work with on set and really gave it her all. At one point we actually stopped shooting as we thought she was really hurt. But nope as soon at we got to her she lifted her eyebrows and gave a huge smile. Convincing much!

Emma is inter cut with sinister foot steps and someone running after her through an abandoned warehouse (that is amazingly graffiti decorated). We are then side tracked as we see a guy in a red hoody, played by the lovely David Thomas. He is walking through the same space as Emma but after a while we start to realise that maybe they are not there at the same time. He is recreating and following the footsteps of where Emma was.

The story soon reveals the fate of poor Emma and what her attacker did, played by the wonderfully sinister Graham Earley. (Shivers)

The honestly distraught David gets to the crime scene and by this time his devastation has delved so deep that it evokes something strange and super natural inside him. This is when things start to change and the excitement starts to happen.

I wont give away the rest of the video but we can say that maybe Emma’s horrific fate might not be written in stone and of course we can’t leave you without a cliffhanger ending too.

Music Video Keith O’Connell ‘At The End Of The Day’

Sometimes, life just brings things together beautifully for you, and gives you chances you have to grab. That’s how it felt for us with this music video project for Tallaght’s Keith O’Connell.

Keith had sent us the song a few months back, eager to put a music video together before the summer season. We could tell it had great potential. Keith is a talented and veteran musician and performer, and he had finally decided he needed to start releasing his own work. ‘At The End Of The Day’ would be his début.

I’d be lying if I said we had the vision for the track immediately. In fact, our minds went farther afield than Keith was comfortable with, and we had to reign it in a little for him. One thing was for sure though, we all felt the vibe of this track really suited a particular actor we’ve known for many years; the stunning Jenny Dixon. And our luck was in; not only was she interested, but we were able to find time in her busy schedule to put it together. Jenny is flat out right now between a ton of projects including Fair City and spending chunks of time away in Los Angeles.

At the end of the day (see what I did there?) this project actually came together pretty quickly. Jenny had limited availability which put the fire under us to get it done. After an actor Keith had lined up couldn’t make the schedule, we suggested David Thomas (whom we’d worked with on ‘Illusions’). We wanted someone who could really deliver emotionally and equal Jenny’s talent, and David has proven he is more than capable. And he was available on the right day!

Kudos to our pal Martin Rochford, who provided his penthouse apartment for the shoot. Martin is a talented writer/director himself and we’ve worked with him on projects in the past, so he was well aware of the disruption a music video shoot can cause in one’s home. It provided the perfect backdrop to this gorgeous couple and their story.

And the weather? And the light? How hard is it to get exactly the kind of conditions you want for a video shoot in Ireland? Really hard. Nearly impossible. But luck continued for us as everything came together perfectly. You’ll have to watch the video to see what I mean.

We had the privilege of being invited to the rehearsals for this years annual Rock Against MS in Los Angeles thanks to the Bass legend that is Tanya O Callaghan. And us being ourselves, we couldn’t help but get stuck in and do what we could to help; and what do we do best but make videos?

The Rock Against MS is a great cause, with the LA gigs being run by the indomitable Nancy B Sayle. This is it’s third year. It annually hosts some of the biggest names in Rock Music, and this year was no exception with Billy Sheehan, Joel Hoekstra from Whitesnake and Stephen Perkins from Jane’s Addiction all signed up. The gigs are intended to raise funds and awareness for the Rock Against MS foundation.

We got to hear all the acts rehearsing and putting together their tracks for next Thursday night down at SIR (Studio Instrument Rentals), one of LA’s most famous rehearsal spaces, and rental houses. All the musicians were signing some great merchandise which will be up for grabs on Thursday. Schecter Guitars donated two beautiful axes which you will see in the promotional video. and there’s tons of drum heads, guitar picks and so on.

What an experience getting to hang out with these legends. All in all we shot 12 little video snippets calling people to come and support the cause down at the Whiskey A Go Go. And rumours have it that there may be one other huge rock star showing up on the night, but I won’t breath a word. You’ll have to see for yourself on the night (EDIT: So Taylor Hawkins turned up and sang a David Bowie tune. Aaamaaazzinnng!!) .

Studio Music Video for Country Music Artist Jade Mya

So this October proved to be a wild month for us here at Kerbute. Following on from our exciting summer adventure at the Recording Festival in Grouse Lodge, we were invited to Toronto to shoot a series of studio music videos for country music artist Jade Mya.

We were invited over by her Producer Douglas Romanow, whom we met at the Festival. He’s a very accomplished and talented Music Producer, and has a host of pop and country music credits to his name. As well as being a producer and composer, he is the Musical Director for the Canadian Country Music Awards, and a very talented artist in his own right. We had spoke about the possibility of shooting a studio music video in Toronto with one of his artists when we met – an idea that excited us very much as you can imagine. We all kept in touch, and true to his word he soon followed up with an introduction to the stunning and talented Jade Mya.

We flew over to Toronto for a week in mid October, just as the leaves were turning their glorious fall colours. The music videos were shot in downtown Toronto at Noble Street Studios; state of the art, built for purpose studios that have hosted artists like Will Smith, Justin Bieber, Drake and Kiesza to name a few. What a stunning building, and what a great experience! We also did some outdoor EPK stuff with Jade in the autumn colours of High Park, which you may get to see at some stage.

Jade is a born star, gorgeous on camera and gorgeous in personality too. She has a grace and presence in person, and a burning passion for country music. Jade is an experienced model, fitness queen and philanthropist and is quickly becoming an in-demand country singer.

Despite being a little tight for time (both Jade and Douglas are not short of ambition) the video shoot was tremendous fun and quite relaxed thanks to Jade, Douglas and his crew at Noble Street.

This is the first of four music videos to be released from the session; a cover of ‘Shotgun’ feat. Christina Aguilera from the show Nashville. If you want learn how to listen to music on facetime without shareplay, you can easily do thanks to online guides.
